How to Get AI to Think Like You

Sounding like you is more than your vocabulary, language style (or skills), and how often you use humour to make a point.

It’s also more than your average sentence length, and how many verbs to nouns you typically use.

It’s more than your use of en- or em-dashes (or lack thereof in my case!) - or your general preferences when it comes to punctuation.

That’s why you can give AI any amount of training data for your tone of voice and style of writing, and it will still sound like an uncanny valley version of you.

It misses the essence somehow, and you can’t quite put your finger on why it feels so obviously not-you.

AI language models default to…

  • Average internet thinking

  • Generic advice

  • Surface-level reasoning

… Because they are predictive machines, so they’re going to give the most obvious response for your industry unless you deliberately tell them not to.

The things that set your thinking apart as a business owner include…

  • Your subject knowledge

  • Your lived industry experience

  • Your cognitive processing

  • Your conscious & subconscious decision-making frameworks

In short, your thinking - and your intuition - has structure behind it

The way you come to a conclusion or communicate an idea is made up of all of your human experiences so far - personal and professional.

So if we want to get the best possible results from AI tools like ChatGPT?

We need to capture the essence of how we think.

How we process ideas and information.

How we use reason and logic.

AND THEN - how we use language (which is where most prompting focuses).

Over three years ago, I built the first version of Marketing Magic - which supports thousands of business owners in their marketing and content creation.

And something I’ve never talked about before is the fact that along with being deeply nerdy about language, I’ve spent a lot of my free time looking at how we think - and applying that in the AI tools and workflows I build week-to-week.

This is a workshop I have wanted to run for a while - because I’m really excited about it as a topic, and it makes such a significant difference to the quality of the AI you’re working with.

So I’ve set a date!

And you can join me for How to Get AI to Think Like You on Tuesday, 24 March.

  • Workshop: How to Get AI to Think Like You

  • When: Tuesday, 24 March, 2026
